For those on a Silicon Mac or Mac w/ M1 processor, you can't install meteor simply using curl https://install.meteor.com | sh, because Meteor doesn't officially support non intel-based Mac chips. Fear not -- there's a workaround using Rosetta for the Mac terminal:

  1. Install Rosetta by opening a terminal and running softwareupdate --install-rosetta
  2. Open up Finder, then click 'Go' from the finder bar menu, and click 'Utilities'
  3. Duplicate the Terminal app and rename it to 'Rosetta Terminal', then right click it, click 'Get Info', then check 'Open using Rosetta'
  4. Make sure you've closed ANY open terminals, then open your new Rosetta Terminal, and install meteor as instructed usingcurl https://install.meteor.com | sh

As long as you've closed all terminal windows prior to this step, you should be able good to go.
